“And the LORD said unto Moses,
Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go
forward:” Exodus 14:15
The scenario in today’s text is
an excerpt from the story of the Children of Israel after they left Egypt.
Shortly after their departure into the wilderness, they came facing the Red Sea
while on their left and their right were mountains. Chasing with so much pace
behind them were the Egyptians. Such a condition will make any normal human
being be unsettled because this is a typical case of trouble on every side.
This is the kind of situation as
people say ‘you should not even wish your
enemies’. For example, a man with three children gets fired from his job
and on his way home soaked in sorrow; he gets robbed of all his possession. He
eventually walks stressfully home to find his wife and children sick. This is
not the kind of situation anybody should experience.
When Israel saw their dilemma,
they cried to Moses and in turn Moses cried to God. But then, God gave a rather
shocking answer, He said to Moses “…wherefore criest thou unto me? ...” God
said to Moses, why are you crying to me? As if to say; why are you disturbing
me? Think of it, the person who sent Moses to deliver Israel asking him why are
you crying to me? Moses could have thought he made a terrible mistake.
But God then said, Speak to the
children of Israel that they go forward. And in Exodus 14:16 “But
lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it:
and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the
sea.” The solution was with Moses all along but he was ignorant of it,
or did he think that the same rod that turned to serpent and ate all of
Pharaoh’s magicians could not create a road in the Red Sea?
The tragedy of today is that many
Christians are suffering, with the solution in their hands, but because of
ignorance they are crying.
