“And when the children of Israel saw it,
they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was.
And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given
you to eat” Exodus 16:15
The word ‘Manna’ means “what is this?”
The nation of Isreal had come out of Egypt. They
came out with many things including foodstuff. After a while, the food finished
and the people began to cry to Moses and Moses began to cry to God saying “the
people are hungry”. God heard him and performed a miracle. When they woke up
the following morning, they saw that the ground was filled with small
substances that looked like bread but it was not bread. They began to ask themselves, “what is this?”
Imagine the father looking at the mother and
asking, “what is this?” The mother looking at the children and asking, “what is
this?” There was confusion in the camp because they did
not know what it was but Moses came to them and said, “This is the bread that the Lord has given to you to eat” In John 6:25, Jesus said, I am the bread of life.
Somehow without them knowing, they were tasting a
part of Jesus. Jesus is the word of God. In John 1:1, the Bible says, “In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. If Jesus is the word of God, then the word of God
is also Manna (what is this.)
According to Exodus 16:35, the nature of Israel
ate, “what is this” for 40years. For 40years, none of them was sick because
they ate “what is this” (the Manna). “What is this” was good diet. It was able
to give them good health. Just as Israel ate the manna, you are supposed to eat
the word of God. You must learn how to eat the word of God. It is sufficient to
quench any kind of hunger in your life. It is the bread the Lord has given you
to eat.
Prayer/confession: As a new born babe, i desire
the sincere milk and the meat of the word of God. (1 Peter 2:2)
