“Therefore my people are gone
into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are
famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.” – Isaiah 5:13
Today, we will focus on two words
in the first part of the above scripture-Isaiah 5:13. The Bible says “…MY
PEOPLE are gone into captivity…” these words – MY PEOPLE appear no
fewer than two hundred and thirty times in the King James version of the Bible.
Now, when God used the words “My people,” the crystal clear implication is that
there are people who are not His. Although God created all people, not all
people are God’s people.
Hosea 2:23 buttresses this where
the Bible says; “And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon
her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not MY
PEOPLE, Thou art MY PEOPLE; and they shall say, Thou art my God.” This
is God speaking through the Prophet Hosea stating that there were people who
did not belong to Him. Yes God created them, yes God gave them the breath of
life, but they still were not His. Even in the Church today, there are people
who work in church as service to God, cry to Him in prayer yet God says they do
not belong to Him. Even in the church, there are people God tags outsiders
because of their attitudes.
People lie without fear or conscience, they steal
and kill not only with guns and knives but with their tongues and pens, etc.,
yet they are in the house of God. This is an unfortunate reality that we find
in the body of Christ.
There are even extreme cases of
people who steal from peoples’ bags while in the church. Do you think these
ones belong to God, even though they are in the building?
God is reaching out His hand of
mercy to everyone reading this devotional today. You may have said to yourself
and others, that by virtue of the position you hold in church or merely because
you attend services you belong to God, but when you search sincerely, you know
you have what Apostle Paul calls the weights and sins which do easily beset
you. God want to place you amongst the ones He calls ‘MY PEOPLE’. Change your
ways today and obtain mercy.
