"The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints."
God opened the eyes of Elisha’s servant and he saw what he
couldn’t see before. There are two ways
that God opens our eyes to see. First, he can do what he did to Elisha’s servant. Elisha did not need to see physical angels
because he already understood the covenant.
His servant, however, did not understand and so needed to see physically
hence, God opened his eyes. Secondly, the book of Ephesians says, “The eyes of your understanding being
enlightened …” (Ephesians 1:18). If God does not show you physically, He can
enlighten your understanding. What the above means is that when your enemies
come with all forms of wiles, or breathing fire and brimstone, you will not
fret before them like a coward because your eyes of understanding are opened
and you know that your words are anointed, you will be the one to threaten
them.
In Luke 24, Jesus had ascended and his disciples were confused,
they had become a laughing stock. However, in verse 36, the Bible tells us that
Jesus reappeared to them. Likewise Jesus
will re-appear to you in your circumstances.
In verse 45, the Bible says, “Then
opened in their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures” (Luke 24:45). This gives an insight to why the
disciples were sad. They lacked
understanding. For three and a half years, Jesus gave them knowledge but they
did not understand it.
There is a door
to your understanding. The Bible says, “And they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem
with great Joy” (Luke 24:52). Why
did they worship Him? It was because they got the understanding therefore their
sadness was turned into happiness. “The disciples were continually at the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen” (Luke 24:53) even when Jesus was no longer with them physically. Some
Christians run from pillar to post seeking for prayers when their mouth is full
of prayers. This is because they lack understanding.
Prayer/Confession: Lord, Open the eyes of my
understanding. I reject discouragement and confusion in serving you.
Word
of Wisdom: When your eyes of understanding are open, you become a victor.
