“For as the body is one, and hath many members,
and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is
Christ”
1 Corinthians 12:12
1 Corinthians 12:12
A covenant relationship is an agreement
between two or more persons that is based on blood. The human physical body functions in covenant
relationship. Every part does not break covenant. Your body is made to function
together in covenant relationship. They work in agreement and so they function
together. E.g, If your hand is cut, it sends a signal to your brain which sends
a signal to your whole body and the body responds immediately. If a part of the
body is not functioning properly, it is termed sick.
In the same vein, God made the body of Christ
to function together by covenant relationship.
In 1
Corinthians 12:13, the Bible says, “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into
one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or
free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit”.
Here, Paul is trying to use the natural human
body as a demonstration of how the body of Christ functions.
All believers which form part of the body of
Christ are baptized into one body by one spirit and we drink into one spirit.
It is the same spirit.
I know a story of a woman who was a Christian,
working in a corporation, she was due for promotion but when her promotion was
to be discussed at the board meeting, it was a fellow Christian sister that
challenged it, asking why must she be promoted? She broke the covenant.
God wants you to understand that we are one
body, baptized into same spirit and we drink of the same spirit.
When a young man and woman get married in the village, they pray into one drink in a cup or bottle and ask both the man and woman to drink from it. They are entering into a covenant, an agreement by so doing. In other words, they are saying “as we drink from this one bottle, we have become one”.

In the same vein, as Christians/believers drink
from the same spirit into the same spirit, we become one. It does not matter
the race, tribe, colour, social status, church, etc we belong to. Whatever you
do against a fellow believer, that is not of Christ, you are breaking the
covenant and it would affect your destiny. You will not fulfill destiny. Do not
say it doesn’t matter because it does. We are expected to work together and
function together in love as our destinies are interwoven.
We are one body in Christ bound by the blood of Jesus.
Examine your life today and make amends in areas where you need to so that you can fulfill your destiny.
Prayer/Confession: O Lord, I ask for your mercy
today in any way i have broken my covenant relationship, have mercy on me. Give
me the grace to show love to other persons. Let me be an example of a believer
in words and in deeds in the name of Jesus. I must fulfill my destiny in Jesus name,
Amen.
