“So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David
made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king
over Israel” 2 Samuel 5:3
From the time David was anointed King in
Bethlehem to the time when he was made king of Judah in Hebron was a space for
ten years. David and His men lived in Hebron for another seven and a half years before he was made king of the whole Israel. The question is why did God leave
David in Hebron for another seven and half year because his final destination
was Zion. God moved him from Hebron to Zion.
Hebron and Zion are not too far apart. They
are both on hills but Hebron is higher than Zion. Zion is 2500 feet above sea
level but Hebron is 3,000 feet above sea level.
That means it is more difficult to get to Hebron than to get to Zion.
Now if Zion was David’s destination, why would God let him go to Hebron; let
him climb higher then come back lower to Zion?
The reason is because God felt that if David
could capture Hebron and master the conditions in Hebron, to capture Zion would
be easier. So He left them to perfect their covenant relationship with each
other in Hebron. They had another seven and a half years to work on it. Without
perfecting their covenant relationship, David would not have been able to rule
from Zion. He would have failed.
Do you know that your relationship with
another believer is not based on the tribe, or the church they attend, or their
status, etc, it is based on the blood of Jesus. It is a covenant relationship.
You must learn how to be faithful in covenant relationship if you must fulfill
your destiny. In the church of Christ today, you see Christians backbiting each
other, some cheat other Christians, some tell lies against other persons to
seek favours, some Christians steal from others and do all manner of terrible things.
If you do such, you are breaking the covenant. if you are such, you would not be able to rule
and reign from your spiritual Zion and you can never fulfill your destiny.
Prayer/Confession: O Lord, give me the grace
to be faithful in my covenant relationship with you and other believers in the
name of Jesus. I will not miss my destiny in Jesus name.
