“And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with
them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed” Numbers
22:12.
The children of Israel camped by Jordan and
Balak, the king of Moab saw them. He saw that everything about them was good.
What he did not know was that they had been eating the manna. When he saw them,
he got jealous. Out of jealousy, Balak sought to kill them. He
then looked for a backsliding prophet called Balaam to curse them.
In verse 12, God warned Balaam ahead of time not
to curse the children of Israel because they are already blessed. But Balaam
was a backsliding and covetous person.
When they met him initially he said, he would not go but Balak sent
messengers to him again saying he would give him twice anything he wanted. This
time, he said, “let me go and seek the Lord”. But God had earlier spoken to him
so what was he seeking the Lord for again?
He went to seek the Lord and the Lord said, since
this is what you want to do, do. When God sees that you are adamant to do what
is in your heart, He leaves you. The Bible says, “and the Lord was angry with
Balaam” and as he went in his stubbornness, his ass which he was riding upon,
saw an angel with a sword blocking the way and refused to go. Because Balaam
was backsliding, he couldn't see the angel with a sword. Balaam got annoyed and
hit the ass.
Then the Lord anointed the ass and the ass opened its mouth and
said, “...What have I done unto thee?...” can’t you see, are you this
backslidden?
May your backsliding not blind you from God?
God is talking to you but you can’t hear Him; He
is coming to you but you can’t see Him; He is trying to minister to you because
your heart is far away from God. God used an ass to talk to a human being.
I pray you hear God for yourself that no one else
will talk to you.
Are you one, whom so many have spoken to you to
receive Christ yet you do not want to hear, you think they are crazy. What are
you waiting for? Are you waiting for your car to talk to you or the walls of
your house to talk to you?
Prayer/Confession: O Lord, help me to hear you
every time you talk. Help me o God.
