#EaglesDevotional - THE BATTLE IS IN THE MIND [PART 2]: BE NOT CONFORMED

“And be not conformed to this world…” (Romans 12:2a)

To conform means to behave or act in a way similar to what is obtainable in this world It means to do as others do. In I Samuel 8:4-6, the Bible tells us that the elders of Israel gathered, went to Samuel and said: “Samuel, we want you to give us a king. We want to be like other nations”. In other words, we want to be like the world. We want a culture similar to that of the world.

But the Bible says we are peculiar people. If you allow God to be King over your life, He will give you His very best. Why do you think people commit sin? They do those things because they are in conformity with the world, and they believe that there is no other way to survive.

In II Kings 6, there was famine in the land. Everywhere people turned, there were problems. In II Kings 7:1, Elisha got up and said: “Hear ye the word of the LORD, by this time tomorrow, food will be surplus.” Some people must have wondered if the man was crazy? Amongst those who disbelieved was the man on whose arm the king leaned. In mockery he asked Elisha if those things he (Elisha) said could happen even if God should open the windows of heaven. The Bible says that the king was leaning on the arm of a man. In other words, he believed in what he could see. He depended on man for help. Man can help you, but man can only help you in limited ways. Man is not God. One day, your father, mother, friends and relatives will fail you.
