#EaglesDevotional - CALAMITY: A PRODUCT OF SIN

“And Aaron was an hundred and twenty and three years old when he died in Mount Hor” (Numbers 33:39)

I want you to realize that the nature of God brings satisfaction.  But the nature of sin gives calamity. The word calamity means disaster or tragedy. In other words, the character of sin is associated with tragedy. When a man’s life is dented by sin, his existence while on earth would be full of calamity. The very nature of sin would cause his seed of greatness and destiny to be blown away by the wind of disaster and there would be no sign of achievement. That is why if you check someone whose life is filled with one problem or the other, the main cause of it is sin. The bible says Aaron lived three years longer than Moses but had nothing to show for it.  When you read through Genesis to Revelation, you will hardly see any tangible achievement of Aaron.  He lived for 123 years without anything to show for it.  Remember that Aaron was the first high priest of Israel.  What then happened to him?  The answer is not far fetched, “And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God” (Exodus 4:16).

Aaron was highly exalted to be Moses’ spokesman.  But Miriam persuaded and convinced him to rebel against Moses.  Instead of speaking for Moses, he spoke against him. While Moses was still on top of the mountain talking to God for forty days and nights Aaron had already been convinced to rebel against him. When Moses heard the sound of the people, God told him that the sound of joy from the camp is as a result of the rebellious act of his brother who had turned the heart of the people against God. Do not allow a third party to convince you to sin against God. A rebellious heart turns God’s face against his child. Sin destroys the seed of greatness in the life of a person. Excerpt by seeking the face of God, the seed of greatness cannot be revived.
