#EaglesDevotional - UNDERSTANDING DRIVES FEAR

And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, a host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, alas, my master!   How shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that are with us are more than they that are with them. 2 Kings 6:15-16

The Syrian army surrounded Elisha’s house by night, with the intent of taking him by surprise. There are two types of enemies. One comes boldly to say, “I am your enemy,” and the other one pretends to be your friend.  The one that comes out boldly is easy to contend with but only God can deliver you from the one that laughs with you, while at the same time contrives evil schemes against you.  Whoever and wherever they are, God is going to expose them.  Whether they are in your compound, family, business or working place, in the name of Jesus, let them make mistakes that will expose them.

In verse 15, Elisha’s servant woke up in the morning, went outside, saw soldiers surrounding their house, and He exclaimed! “Alas, my master, we are finished! What shall we do?” This servant was Hebrew, just like Elisha. By extrapolation, he also knew what Elisha knew.

Every Hebrew is taught about covenant but Elisha’s servant had no understanding. Elisha responded and said “Shut up! Fear not!”  Some Christians fear too much! Why should you fear a witch or anything demon at all?  If you are a child of God, even a shrine will reject your name and if they call your name in the coven, the invisible hand of God will begin to flog them and the coven will catch fire.  Elisha said: “Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that are with them” (2 Kings 6:16). Who are the people with us? Angels, of course! For every adversary, there are at least 10,000 angels.

Elisha had this understanding. I do not think Elisha’s servant was listening, let alone believing - because in verse 17, “Elisha prayed, and said, Lord I pray thee, open his eyes that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw …” By now, he not only knew the covenant, but he understood it as well.  This understanding allayed his fear and he feared no more.
