“For
what portion of God
is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?” Job 31:2
Your portion is that thing that
belongs to you or that thing that you ought to have but do not have. In Genesis14, Abraham separated himself from Lot by asking Lot make a decision and go
wherever Lot chooses. Lot chose Sodom and Gomorrah because he walked by sight.
He saw the plains of Jordan that was well watered and he went that way. If you
will succeed in life you must learn to move by the leading of the spirit of God
and not what your eyes are showing you. 2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us that we work
by faith and not by sight.
After a few years of Lots’ stay
in Sodom and Gomorrah, enemies raided the land. Sodom and Gomorrah was
defeated, the Bible says their goods and victuals were taken and Lot was taken
captive.
When Abraham found out what had
happened to Sodom and Gomorrah, he gathered soldiers. This was because he had a
portion in Sodom and Gomorrah –Lot, his family and his properties. Abraham chased
after the enemies of Sodom and Gomorrah with three men- Mamre, Anner and Eshcol
and recovered all the goods that were taken. He also brought back Lot and all
the people who were taken captive.
In verse 21 of Genesis 14, the
King of Sodom to Abraham said to Abraham “...Give me the persons, and take the goods
to thyself.” But Abraham rejected the gifts because he had taken his
portion. Nevertheless in verse 24, Abraham said concerning the three men that
went to battle with me “...and the portion of the men which went
with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.”
Every believer has a portion and
it is contained in the word of God. If you don’t know your portion, find a
promise in the word of God that relates to your portion and everyday say to God
and say to the devil “this is my portion.” It will first manifest in the spirit
realm then it will manifest in the physical.
Prayer/Confession: Father, you have said the power
to my portion in my tongue. In the name of Jesus, I take my portion. Devil,
take your hands away from my portion.
