“But
Thomas, one of the twelve called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus
came. The other disciples therefore said to him, we have seen the
LORD. But he said to them, Except I shall see on His hands the print of
nails, and thrust my hand unto His side, I will not believe”. (John 20:24-25)
Because
Thomas doubted the eleven, his response to them was that of unbelief, which the
opposite of faith is.
Romans
10:17 says: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of
God”. In other words, you get faith when you hear the word of
God.
How
then could Thomas have faith when he was not in the church to hear? No
wonder he said ”… I will not believe”. You cannot believe when
you do not hear faith. Anyone who does not attend church gatherings
for bible studies, revival services, home fellowships cannot believe in the Almighty God.
The
reason is simple: If faith comes by hearing, conversely unbelief also comes
by not hearing or not hearing rightly. If therefore you are not present to
hear what God says about you, there is no doubt that what you receive is the
opposite of what God wants for you.
Secondly,
people can have ears (physical ears) and not hear things even when they are in
church for Bible study or revival services or worship services or even home fellowships.
No wonder the Bible says in Rev. 3:22 “He that hath an ear, let him hear …”
sometimes, when we go into the house of the Lord, we occupy our minds with so
many things that there is no space for the word to dwell. Note, when you come
into the presence of God you must be ready to put down everything that has
troubled you before. That is the only way you can concentrate and hear what the
spirit is saying. David said in Psalm 100:4; “Enter into his gates with
thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless
his name.”
When
you hear, you receive faith.
Prayer/Confession:
Oh Lord, make me thankful every time I come onto your presence, so I can
concentrate and receive your word, in Jesus mighty name! Amen
