“Be careful for
nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let
your request be made known unto God”
(Philippians 4:6)
The
word “careful” means “anxious.” In other words, the verse could read “Do not be
anxious for anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God”. It by extension means,
all your prayer should be mixed with thanksgiving.
An
attitude of thanksgiving, in spite of all odds is the only medium that conveys
our needs to God. Jesus in John 6: 11, when He took the five loaves of bread
from the young lad, He gave thanks. That seems very strange for a man who
needed to feed about thirty thousand persons but had only five loaves, does it not?
Thanksgiving
sets you free from the power of complaining and murmuring. The longer you
complain, the longer your period of waiting and the farther your breakthrough
is from you. On the contrary, when you learn the power of thanksgiving, you
fast forward your miracle. Jesus advised His disciples against this flaw
“…murmur not among yourselves” (John 6:43).
It is a spiritual principle that
Complaints do not move God rather they hinder him. Rather,
according to prophet Jeremiah in Lamentations 3:41 “Let us lift up our heart
with our hands unto God in the heavens.” When you are in the habit of giving
thanks, you surprise your enemies because they will not be able to understand
you.
Prayer/Confession:
I will offer unto God the sacrifice of Praise.
