#EaglesDevotional - TEMPTATION TO SIN - LUST

“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren” James 1:13-16

Lust can be said to be imaginations in the mind which do not glorify God.  In 2 Corinthians 10:5, the Bible says  “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”
In other words, every imagination or any image that is in your mind that does not represent Christ, God requires you to cast them down.

Lust is not limited to sex, lust is expressed in anger. it can be expressed in jealousy and envy. Sometimes, it is expressed in wickedness and it could lead to murder.

I know a story of a man who took armed robbers to his brother’s store to steal. When they got there, they met the wife who recognized her husband’s brother when she called him by name he shot her and killed her and later came to help the brother bury the wife. The consequences caught up with him later but it began with lust in his mind for what his brother owned. He did not want to work, he wanted to obtain it by force. it began with lust in his mind.

As a Christian, you must carefully guide your heart so that the achievement of other persons would not inspire lust in your heart. The bible says in 1 Timothy 6:6. “But godliness with contentment is great gain”.

This does not mean you are not expected to make progress in life. But it means rejoice for where you are today while you believe God for a better tomorrow.  Get inspired for your tomorrow but not lustful. Lust produces sin and sin produces death.

Prayer/Confession: In the name of the resurrected Christ, I challenge every image in my mind that is not of God I command it to come down in the name of Jesus.
