“For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body”
1 Corinthians 12:14-16
Apostle Paul here was using the human physical
body to explain how the body of Christ works. Yesterday, we studied how God
made the parts of the human body to function together in agreement in covenant
relationship. Likewise, God also designed the body of Christ to function
together in agreement so that each and every member of the body shall fulfill destiny in Christ.
In the scripture above, verse 14 says, for the body is not one member but many. This means in the body of Christ, there are many parts to function as members. Every believer is a part of the body and has a specific part or role to play. God has deposited in every one the ability to carry out a specific function. For some, the ability to take care of others have been given to them, others, the ability to sing, keep order, make clean, pray, teach the word, welfare, hospitality, etc have been given to them.
An ability has been deposited in you by God
for the work of the body. If you are not functional in the body of Christ, you
are making the body sick and God would hold you accountable.
Identify the ability God has given to you and
begin to function there. One easy way to
identify the ability God has put in you is to identify things you enjoy doing,
then seek the ministry in your church that can accommodate that thing and be a
part of that ministry. Some persons without being taught know how to play
instruments very well, some know how to sing or love to sing, etc, it is a pointer to the ability God has put in you. Stand up to your responsibility and begin to
function in your place. It is connected to your destiny.
In verse 15-16, the Bible says, If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the
body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am
not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? This scripture means that, even if you are an
ignorant Christian, i.e you say you have accepted Christ but yet still act
ignorantly, it does not mean you are not part of the body. However in dealing
with spiritual things, ignorance is not an excuse.
As a believer, you are a part of the body of
Christ. Take your place and function therein that your destiny may be
fulfilled.
Prayer/Confession: O Lord, another will not
take my place, i will be effective and efficient in the place you have crated
me to be in your body in the name of Jesus.
