“Wherefore, my
beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much
more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling”, (Philippians 2:12).
You must have a proof of your
salvation. Any human being saved from sin must have evidence of a changed
life. If there is no evidence then there
is something wrong with that salvation.
Your salvation must be worked out. Paul was saying from the above
scripture that salvation must have practical evidence. It is not enough to say “I am saved”, anybody
can claim he/she has accepted Christ. Someone who used to steal cannot claim to
have accepted Christ when there is no change in him/her. Paul said, “… work out
your own salvation with fear and trembling”.
Do not deceive yourself because there must be practical evidence of your
salvation.
In Luke 19, the bible
tells us of a particular rich man by the name Zacchaeus. In verse three of that
same chapter, it was recorded that Zacchaeus climbed a tree inorder to see
Jesus. In verse seven, people addressed
him as a sinner. But the Bible says in
the proceeding verse, “And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the LORD: Behold,
LORD, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing
from any man by false accusation I restore him fourfold”, (Luke 19:8).
That is what is called restitution. The
reason Zacchaeus acted that way was that he had the evidence of salvation. That was why he demonstrated it practically,
because of this singular statement, Jesus said in verse nine, ”And Jesus
said unto him, This say is salvation come to this house …” (Luke 19:9a). There was no altar call in Zacchaeus case but
there was evidence. Immediately Jesus
saw the evidence, He declared his salvation.
By implication, Jesus gave Zacchaeus the solution he was looking
for. Zacchaeus was the chief custom
officer but needed solution to problems his position could not give him. He was a rich man but his riches meant
nothing to him, he was interested in the salvation of his soul. God is willing
to give you solutions to issues of life. You must work out your salvation.
Prayer: LORD, release the evidence of my salvation that
the world may know that I serve a living God in Jesus name!
