“But
of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the
day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die” (Genesis 2:17).
In Genesis 2, God made
everything available for man in the Garden of Eden with a simple instruction. The
above passage is simply saying that when you obey divine instructions, you are
bound to live long. See what verse nine
says,“… the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of
knowledge of good and evil”. You discover from this text that when God
created everything, the tree of life was in the garden. Interestingly, God did
not tell man not to eat of it. Instead,
it was the one God gave man instruction to keep off from that they went to eat. They abandoned the tree that ought to give
them life. The reason is because of the
spirit of disobedience.
When you flout divine
instruction, you must be ready to face the penalty. In Genesis 3:22, the
Bible says, “And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us,
to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also the
tree of life, and eat, and live forever”, when you read further verses 23
and 24, man was eventually driven from the garden and a strong angel was put to
guide it. The point I am trying to make is
that God had already given long life to man, but because of disobedience that
life was cut short.
Disobedience leads man to make
wrong decisions and miss the real thing.
By implication, disobedience to divine instruction can lead you to make
wrong choices in life. I pray for you reading this devotional: may you never
make the wrong choice in your life, in Jesus name.
Prayer: I will not
cut the life God has given me because of disobedience. Spirit of the Living God
take away the spirit of disobedience
