“And the apostles
said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, if ye had faith as a
grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this Sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up
by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you”, (Luke
17:5-6).
Every time in life
when you face a problem bigger than the problem you faced before, you need your
faith to be increased so that you can overcome the problem. The question is how
can your faith be increased? Faith is the
substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It is the
ability you have to believe that God would do what he says he would do. Faith
is also a defensive force with which you face the devil’s aggressive force. The disciples said to
Him, “Lord increase our faith” but Jesus said, “if you have faith...”,
Jesus gave that answer because the disciples were not taking responsibility for
the size of their faith. They were putting it on Jesus. God will not be the one
to increase your faith, prayer also will not increase your faith, although
prayer is necessary. You do not pray for faith you pray in faith.
Jesus said, “if
you have faith like the grain of mustard seed you would say to this tree move
and it should obey you”, He used the word “should” because it is
conditional. In other words, there is a possibility that the tree would not
obey you if your faith is not big enough.
In Romans 12:3,
when God made us he put a seed of faith within us, so everyone has a different
measure of faith. Faith begins as a seed but it should not remain as a seed, it
is meant to germinate and grow. When you feed your faith it begins to grow,
when you meet a mountain your faith should be bigger than it because you have
been feeding it. To feed your faith, you have to study the word of God consistently.
Faith comes by hearing God’s word and grows by constantly studying and living
God’s word.
Prayer/Confession: O
Lord, i believe all your promises towards me, i know without any shadow of
doubt that they will manifest in the physical in the name of Jesus. I uproot every seed of discouragement
and unbelief in my heart in the name of Jesus.
