2019: Avoid temptations by politicians, IGP tells personnel

AHEAD of the 2019 general elections, Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, yesterday warned personnel of the Nigeria Police Force against demanding and receiving gratification from politicians to do their bidding.

He also warned personnel that would be deployed for election duties against acts inimical to acceptable standard, insisting that those whose actions run contrary to election procedures would find themselves to blame.

He spoke yesterday, at a monthly meeting with officers of the rank of Commissioners of Police and beyond, at the Force Headquarters, in Abuja. The IGP noted that police personnel must avoid temptations from desperate politicians, saying:

”As the 2019 election comes, you have to avoid temptations from political actors at the cost of having smooth and credible polls.” He charged commissioners of the various commands to impress it on their officers to be civil in discharging their duties.

Idris used the occasion to decorate the 15 officers recently promoted to the rank of Commissioners of Police. Among the decorated officers was Danjuma Ibrahim, who was recently discharged and acquitted following his link to the killing of six traders in Apo Mechanic Village, otherwise known as Apo six.
