Trump nominates conservative Judge Kavanaugh to Supreme Court

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh, a conservative Federal Court of Appeals Judge, to the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh, a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit would fill the Supreme Court vacancy created by Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement. Trump, while announcing Kavanaugh, said: “One of the most profound responsibility of the President of the United States – selection of a Supreme Court Justice. The U.S. president paid glowing tribute to Justice Kennedy for a lifetime of distinguished service to the U.S. and for his assumption of senior status. UN Security Council adopts resolution to protect children in armed conflict

The Security Council on Monday adopted a resolution aimed at protecting children in armed conflict through a host of measures. Resolution 2427, which won unanimous approval of the 15 members of the council, strongly condemns the recruitment and use of children by parties to armed conflict as well as their re-recruitment, killing and maiming, rape and other forms of sexual violence, and abductions. The resolution also condemns attacks against schools and hospitals and the denial of humanitarian access by parties to armed conflict and all other violations of international law committed against children in situations of armed conflict. Members demanded that all relevant parties immediately put an end to such practices and take special measures to protect children.
